Manang Artist Residency, found and led by Nepali architect Amar Gurung and Australian artist Jo Rankine, is an artist-run program in the historic village of Ngawal, nestled in the Annapurna Sanctuary at 3,675 meters.
I had the privilege of attending the residency from March to April 2025 for three transformative weeks. I was surrounded by sublime landscapes and a lovely group of fellow artists, friendly locals, and adorable animals. The residency bridges the breathtaking landscapes of the Himalayas with contemporary art, urging deep engagement with this unique place and culture.
PROJECT一
NEON BUG虫

PROJECT 二
SKEIN OF WATER
This work weaves microscopic footage of Ngawal’s biological and natural phenomena with low-resolution landscape scans. The piece layers intimate textures of the Himalayan environment—from cellular rhythms to glacial horizons—using a weathered boulder as canvas and focal point. This interplay collapses scale, reflecting the micro into the macro: a meditation on impermanence and perception at 3,650m.
